Clif Shot Electrolyte drink review...

A few weeks ago, I received a pack of schwag from Clif Bar. Usually I stick with what I know and normally use, but I have all these powdered drinks and bars building up... so, I'm going to start using them... I took a bottle of their Apple Crisp Electrolyte drink with me on my 4 hr ride today, this is how it stacked up:

Taste: well, I look more for a subtle taste that doesn't linger. I didn't really care for the apple crisp taste, but after a couple hours it wasn't really that big of a deal. I didn't find myself reaching for it though, I kind of had to remind myself to drink it (once again normal among most drinks).

How does it work?: With just 80 calories per serving (bottle), it wasn't real substantial. It wasn't a real thick drink, like Accelerade. I had to look less to the drink and more to the gels and bars to keep enough calories in me through the ride, which doesn't work well for me in races.

Would I switch to it: No, I use Accelerade and it has more of everything in it. There are 40 more calories per serving as well as more potassium and sodium to prevent cramping. I found a flavor that I like drinking and have no problem emptying a bottle on a ride.

Bottom Line: Not a bad drink... no Trans Fats and the ingredients are all pretty good. I would suggest it for shorter rides. If used on a longer ride, count on eating more gels and/or bars... but does it make sense to have two drinks for two different types of rides? I don't think so...
