Maxim Gel Review...

Since I’ve returned from Europe, the shop I work at has started carrying some Maxim products. One of the guys I raced with in France really liked the Maxim stuff, so I figured I’d give it a shot now that I can get it on the cheap. I’ve been using the Maxim Gel longer than I’ve been using their energy bar, so I’m going to try that a little longer before I make my conclusion on that. I’ve been using the Vanilla Maxim Gel with caffeine, here’s how it stacked up:

The 3 hour test: This gel is pretty substantial, it lasts through a 3 hr ride with no problem. Between the gel and a good sports drink, I didn’t find myself needing to eat anything solid. I would draw the line at 3 hrs though, anything beyond that and you should be eating something with a little more to it.

Does it agree? Taste was alright… there was a little bit of an after taste, but you can easily wash it away with a swig of water. Being that it was Vanilla flavored, it’s a pretty neutral taste and doesn’t really pose a threat to sensitive stomachs… I tasted the citrus flavor as well… it still had an after taste that could be rinsed away, it just had more of a citrus kick…

The Low Down: I think I found a new Gel… I liked it, it works like a real substantial gel without the real thick and hard to swallow consistency. I’m waiting to see how practical it will be to unscrew the top and screw it back on during a race. I think I’m going to see if they have single serving size packets… so yea, the Maxim energy gel vanilla flavor with caffeine gets two thumbs up from me…
