my weekends crash test...

So I ran the new bike through the rigors this weekend... The crit was real technical with 6 corners (loaded with bot dots and potholes) in less than a mile. Usually, if you stay in the top 20-30, you can avoid any major pile ups in that race... wasn't the case saturday, for some reason many of the guys in the race couldn't corner... not holding lines, always on the brakes and of course once one person does it, it ripples through the peleton and gains momentum... I think that's what caused most all the crashes... about halfway through the race I got caught behind a pile-up coming out of the second to last corner and ended up over the bars and head first into the tarmac... I came out of that relatively unscathed, just you're normal abrasions and bruises... unfortunately my bottle cage nearly got ripped off in the crash resulting in a nice crack on the downtube where the cage mounts to the frame... once I collected myself and made sure I was fully intact, I rode up to the wheel pit and jumped back in next lap... so, all's good... I'm back in the race and ready to duke it out for the sprint. I tried to get up a little closer to the front but for all my effort I would always end up getting shoved into a barrier or another rider and have to get on the brakes, I was having a tough time getting anywhere past the top 10... I was hovering in the top 20 about 2 laps to go and ended up behind another pile-up sending me down again in about the same spot as my first crash... and that was it, that was my race... Then the road race was today. I spent the first half of the race chasing down breaks and keeping it all together for my teammate Cameron... the second half I tried sitting in a bit more, trying to keep a little in the tank for the end... I felt pretty good going into the last lap, I felt a bit stiff from the previous days crashes but I was making do... about halfway through the final lap, I hit a nice pothole and flatted... again, that was it... that was my race... there was no getting back on, I was cranking out 350 watts and not getting any closer to the group, I was trailing at about the same distance... when the adrenaline wore off, I remembered I had been holding a nature break since the second lap, so I pulled over and gave some cows a show... it actually ended up a good day for us, Cam went on to take 3rd... all in all, we represented pretty well for only being 2 guys strong... there were many teams there with more guys than us that didn't do anything this weekend, for having a bad weekend it really wasn't that bad... The bike rode very well, it was incredible in the road race... that course is known for beating you to death and it didn't this year, I was never uncomfortable... so that's a quick long summary of how the weekend went, hopefully next weekend I'll have some better luck...
