Last Nights Synopsis...

Last nights race was a pretty cool 4 corner crit with about 1/2 of each side of the course on an uphill. There were some good riders out there, many of the big teams throughout the midwest were present along with Dan Schmats from BMC... I really went into the race with no expectations outside of shooting for the final sprint or setting one of our guys up. Once the race got going, some opportunities came up to get in some breaks and I felt good enough to go with them... so I did... Between Todd and I, we pretty much always had someone in the breaks. We did miss one or two which we went on the front to help chase down after realizing they could actually stay away. Luckily, Schmats wanted to keep everything together and did a large amount of work to bring one of the threatening breaks back. Todd went in one of the final breaks, which set us up perfectly to sit in and wait for a sprint. Todd's group came back with about 3 laps to go while Alex and I tried to stay near the front and set up for the sprint. On the final lap Alex jumped on my wheel on the back stretch and I pulled him up to the top 15 or so before the 2nd to last corner. I could have probably pulled him up to the top 5 if I kept pushing through the corner, but there was a little hesitation as I didn't want to crash and take us both out... It was a little bit of a sketchy corner and everyone at the from was fishtailing a little bit coming out of that corner. I think I could have pulled it off, but I error'd on the side of caution instead. We still have 2 more races this weekend to do some work on that, I would rather live to race another day... I think we did real well in keeping someone up at the front today and flying the colors for only having 3 guys at the race. We were up there doing nearly as much work as the squads with 8 guys, which shows that we're riding strong. After we get a little experience racing together, I think we will only get better. Tonights race is in the Little Italy part of St.Louis, I am looking forward to scoping that out...
