Cruised to Austin this weekend to do some racing... This team from Mexico showed up and put the hurt on everyone... They won both 80-90 mile races, with one guy being off the front virtually the whole day on saturday (came to find, one of these guys beat Mancebo in some UCI race)... The crosswinds wittled the field apart little by little until the end when Tilford blew it to pieces. I was in the final group of 8 guys left of the peleton and was that last guy in the echelon with no place to hide from the wind... I got popped in the last mile and came in behind the lead group of the peleton holding on for 12th. The next day went well, with Alex taking second and me holding on for 11th. After some pretty gnarly crashes and some big efforts trying to keep ourselves in the lead groups, it was a pretty good day. There were some teams there with some large numbers, making Alex and I one of the real deal underdog teams. I think we made sure we were well represented, with one of us being represented in most of the breaks and putting pressure on the bigger teams whenever we could... It was a great race, and I look forward to seeing what happens in the coming weeks. The first collegiate race is in two weeks and is a roubaix style race.... that's right, dirt roads baby... I'm licking my lips...
