My posting has been a little sporadic as of late. I've got a few irons in the fire that have been keeping me preoccupied. One of the more interesting projects I've got going is my nutrition program. I started working with Kim Mueller from Fuel Factor on setting up a good nutrition program that would help me get my intestinal issues under control. So far the plan seems to be working well and I'm learning a lot about proper nutrition. I seem to have licked my age old problem of recovering after a long bout of hard training alone due to changing my eating patterns and increasing caloric intake. I'm still waiting to see how the weight loss portion works. I was losing about a half a pound a week for the first couple weeks (which is the goal), but this last week my body seemed to go into shock and I shot up 10 lb's. This week, it seems the weight is slowly dropping back down to about where it should be. It's one of those things you have to modify as you go. I've spent countless hours with my nose buried in the book of nutritional info that Kim gave me, trying to understand how to divide up the massive amount of calories and strategically place certain meals at certain times of the day. It's a load of work starting out, but once you get down the basics, it's pretty easy to keep it snow balling.
My second project is getting into school. I'm pretty set on going to MSU in mid August. It's time for me to start working towards a degree, and this school has a good Business and Kinesiology program. The College also has a good cycling team that offers some scholarships and reduced cost housing for the cyclists. With links to the cycling center in Belgium, this team provides many new opportunities that will allow me to continue racing at a level that will allow me to grow as a cyclist and pursue school. My first race with these guys will be the Hotter n Hell crit and road race in late August. The Hotter n Hell Hundred is one of the main sponsors of the team, so come out and support the team and get in a good century at the same time if you're looking for something to do...
