It's 2 a.m., I'm tired, and have a test tomorrow... Every time I lay down my sinus's fill up making my head throb... This is probably as good a time as any to do some blogging.
This last weekend I did this local crit after spending the week and a half prior with some sort of virus. First race and third ride back on the bike after feeling sick and it was a suckfest for me! I still wasn't feeling anywhere near 100% or 80% for that matter, but my power was up from where it was the previous few days. I had a few days where maintaining 100 watts was killer, not too hot when your lowest training zone is around 200 watts. Back to the race, it was a 4 corner crit in downtown Denton (which is a real cool place, like the downtown in back to the future except slightly cooler). Turns 3&4 were pretty sketch with potholes, gutters, raised manhole covers (really raised, about an inch of metal sticking up out of the asphalt right through the apex of the turn), and just in case we didn't crash on all that stuff there were bot dots to finish off the job. I actually liked the course and so did most everyone I talked to. Todd got in a break fairly early on that ended up lapping the field. So, our goal became trying to snap up a few primes. I went for one and got nipped at the line, the effort destroyed me though. It turned out I hit the highest heart rate I have seen in years in that effort. It felt like it to, I went straight to the very back and was trying to regain composure for the next 20 minutes or so. Turns out I only had about 2 bullets to fire for that whole race. My moneyless prime sprint was one and a few laps off the front towards the end was about 3/4's and Todd's leadout put me in the negative. I mean negative, I was probably losing brain cells at that point... when everything starts to go dark and the brain goes into sensory overload and dumps any incoming information negative... I still don't remember what happened that last lap, it's all a haze... It was some hard riding, not because the race was particularly hard but more due to my lack of power... riding twice as hard to accomplish less than what you normally can really blows...
ok, I may try to get a few hours of sleep now...
J signing off
